Towards another paradigm for forensic science?

چکیده

Daubert skews the contribution of forensic science because it only took into account its Galilean dimension (construction general predictive models). However, should better be classified in historical sciences (clinical approach to reconstruct a past event presence or activity). We therefore need complementary that integrates necessarily “clinical” part resolution issues. Such an evolution involves semiotics. While recognizing Bayesian way thinking is prescriptive available model for interpretation fitting well paradigm, complexity reconstruction past-uncontrolled singular case and robustness relevant data it, invites consideration implementation semiotic line arguments. Indeed, Bayes makes possible remain single harmonized integrating both clinical dimensions, but rapidly modeling mathematization come up against more qualitative natural legal reasoning. Two different systems reasoning at stake are inevitably creating “bug” could explain current crisis miscarriages justice. This anomaly reflected issue transparency (misunderstandings by between interlocutors on nature expertise, if not science). Peirce offers path address tension systems.

The coming paradigm shift in forensic identification science.

Converging legal and scientific forces are pushing the traditional forensic identification sciences toward fundamental change. The assumption of discernible uniqueness that resides at the core of these fields is weakened by evidence of errors in proficiency testing and in actual cases. Changes in the law pertaining to the admissibility of expert evidence in court, together with the emergence of...

The logical foundations of forensic science: towards reliable knowledge.

The generation of observations is a technical process and the advances that have been made in forensic science techniques over the last 50 years have been staggering. But science is about reasoning-about making sense from observations. For the forensic scientist, this is the challenge of interpreting a pattern of observations within the context of a legal trial. Here too, there have been major ...

Palatal Rugae – Another Forensic Tool?

It is a well known fact that with changing times, an increase in the number of natural disasters, crimes and fatalities have taken place. In such a challenging time, identification of human remains is an issue which is the call of the hour and is a grave responsibility as well [1]. Teeth are highly resistant to fire, decomposition and other extreme conditions and so they are vital in forensic i...

Another Paradigm for Geometric Constraints Solving

Geometric constraints solving often relies on graphbased methods to decompose systems of geometric constraints. These methods have intrinsic and unavoidable limitations which are overcome by the witness method presented here.
